First of all you need to have a game plan. My husband and I decided that the grand parents get a fifty dollar spending limit, our parents the same. Cousin’s and niece’s and nephews 20 dollars. And the rest goes to our family…
It helps when you get them a gift because you might spend less. Especially if you find something really nice and it might be on sale?
Otherwise if they are older and you don’t know, there is the visa go anywhere gift card.

I think anything below $20 on a gift card is a little bit tacky.

But if money is tight, just explain to your family (in-laws included!) that you want to spend your Christmas Budget on the kids, and just enjoy their company during the holidays.

To make it work though, you have to also ask them to please not get anything for you; but whatever they might have spent on you just to spend it on your kids.

Or better yet – all the adults in your extended family could get together and draw names. We’ve done that in my family for years. That way, you can give (and receive!) one really nice gift too! TONY

I think it’s a bad idea to let someone else know how much you are spending on them, even if it’s a large amount. You are also going to make a rod for your own back since the same people will expect the same amount or more in years to come, when you may need more for your family, which is more important. What about giving a splendidly-wrapped but low-cost gift like a silver-framed photo frame to the couple? One present for the both of them is more than enough, given your feelings about them. jenesuispasunnombre

I usually do 25.00 gift cards for walmart or get a simon gift card.
If I do not have that much money then i give them a 10.00 gift card or cash.No one ever complains when they are getting cash. shadowmonkeyblue
