If you make a purchase with a gamestop gift card, can you return the item for cash?

Daniel asked:

I currently have a $100 gamestop gift card and I was wondering if i could make a purchase using the card then go and return the items for cash instead of store credit? I don’t have a gamestop near me and I hardly play video games so the card is pretty useless to me.

    No
You will only get store credit or another gift card to use at GameStop My Take on It

You can only return an item and receive the same tender that you paid for it or store credit. So if you use a gift card then you will get a gift card in return.

Where I work at solves the dilemma that you are currently in. We buy gift cards from people who don’t want them and you can receive cash or Amazon.com credit. We’ve been in business for over two years now and have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, People Magazine and more.

Head over to our site get a quote and in less than 48 hours after receiving your card we’ll mail you a check for cash. A lot better then buying some video games that you don’t need and won’t ever play. BenGiftCardRescue

Typically, no. Most companies will not provide cash for a refund when you use a gift card for the purchase. In fact, they might even credit the same card. As Ben suggests, you could sell the card in a secondary market and get a portion of the value. Another thought is to give it as a gift to someone who does play video games.

    Good luck! Judd
