How do you redeem an iTunes gift card?

Okay, I know this question may sound kind of stupid but to be honest, I really don’t know how to redeem an iTunes gift card. Last time when I tried to redeem one of my gift cards, something went wrong so I couldn’t use my gift card and lost like $50. Then I emailed a person from iTunes and then they gave me a new gift card so I ended up getting my $50 back!!! So this time, it would be really nice if I didn’t go through what happened to me last time

Can I pay for shipping using a Hot Topic gift card?

I have over $10 left on both of my gift cards (added together). Can I pay the shipping of my stuff with those gift cards? If so, how can I? My mom doesn’t want me to give them her credit card number because the last time we ordered from Hot Topic people began charging our card even when we weren’t buying things.
