What happends if u over exceed a debit gift card?

my dad gave me a gift card for x-mass, says debit at the bottom and is a visa, what would happen if i charge more dan wat is left on the card? would the rest get charged to his account? isit even possible for this to happen?

    If you bought something for $100 and there is only $80 on the gift card they will want the rest in cash from you right there. Jane

    They won’t let you go over the limit.

    That’s the beauty of the debit card. It’s why your dad didn’t give you a credit card. Good ol’ dad! Pem

    You can not over charge on a gift card. If you buy something that cost more than is on the card, they will know that at the register and ask you for the balance Classy Granny
